After finding the Acts 1 description of Judas's death, Carter phoned Neville (with Mrs. Goddard also on the line) and said 'Neville, you are Judas'; Neville assented, expounded the two traditions of Judas's death, and twice said Judas betrayed the messianic secret. [Date evidence: an early-morning phone call sometime between Carter's vision (c. 1969) and Neville's death (Oct 1972)] [Place: by telephone, early morning]
- between 1969 and 1 October 1972
I told him. I said, Neville, you are Judas. And he said, yes. Judas betrayed the messianic secrets, and then he said, you know that there are two traditions on the death of Judas. One is in the gospel account where he goes and hangs himself. The other is this account which I just got through telling you, how he burst asunder in the midst, and all of his bowels gushed out. Then he went on to say, In the Orient, suicide is a very honorable thing. The one who commits suicide in the Orient disembowels himself. And then he repeated once more, Judas betrayed the messianic secret.
Neville (as quoted): "Yes. Judas betrayed the messianic secrets... you know that there are two traditions on the death of Judas... In the Orient, suicide is a very honorable thing. The one who commits suicide in the Orient disembowels himself... Judas betrayed the messianic secret."
