The coroner showed Carter the body: Neville nude on his back, fallen from his bedroom doorway into the hallway with arms outstretched, blood all over his face and a choked, agonized expression Carter matched to his vision; the coroner said Neville had apparently shed every drop of blood in his body. [Date evidence: the morning after Neville's death (1 Oct 1972)] [Place: the hallway outside Neville's bedroom, Neville's home, Los Angeles]
- 1 October 1972
there was Neville, nude, lying on his back. He had fallen from his bedroom doorway on his back into the hallway, and his arms were stretched out like this. There was a napkin over his face, and the coroner said, we don't understand all the blood, see? He reached down and pulled the napkin off his face, and there was a face I had seen in my vision, that choked, agonized expression, and there was blood all over his face. The coroner said, apparently he shed every drop of blood in his body.
