Fifteen years ago a friend's wife told Neville she wished her husband, a Princeton graduate selling for a small pharmaceutical firm, were more important and made more; Neville imagined and conversed with her from the premise that he was making more, and the firm was twice absorbed by bigger firms until the husband had a huge territory, a sales force and a commission — after which she complained he was never at home, and now sees him only at weekends.
