Neville watches an ailing Roosevelt's final campaign arrival

Neville recalls living at 32 Washington Square next door to Roosevelt at 29, and being stopped by police as he came home about a week before the November election of Roosevelt's fourth-term campaign, seeing the dying, wizened President ride in an open car in the cold rain while Mrs. Roosevelt distracted the crowd with an armful of roses and men lifted him out bodily.

  • Purpose: To Build a Dwelling Place for God ¶25 (When I read that Roosevelt died at the age of sixty-three, well, I saw him just about a week before the election in November of the year that he ran for the fourth term, because we lived next door. He lived at 29 and we lived at 32 on Washington Square.)
