  1. c. 1948 stated · preferred
Source The Law ¶4"many years ago I would say 1948", told in The Law 2 (nid 1852)
  2. c. 1949 estimated · probable
Source The Law ¶4passage 546829 (lecture nid 1852): 'in that year he was given that job... A year later, he moved... into the entire what is called the Western States'
Why Existing 1948 claim dates the initial territory grant, not the Western States expansion named in the title.
Reasoning Neville states the initial territory grant (San Diego area) happened in the stated year 1948. He then says the man moved into covering the entire Western States 'a year later', i.e. circa 1949. The event as titled is specifically the Western States promotion, which is this second step, not the 1948 grant the existing claim dates.
