Neville is brutally beaten over scripture at school

As a schoolboy in Barbados Neville was savagely beaten by his schoolmaster for supposedly misquoting scripture ('Take up thy bed and walk' against the master's 'couch'), could not produce a Bible because his brother Cecil had the family's; his brother Victor showed his bleeding to their father, who had to be restrained from going after the man; Neville was taken out of that school the next day and a year later the schoolmaster shot himself.

Reasoning Passage 550218 is Neville narrating on the platform the brutal schoolmaster beating over scripture in Barbados; the lecture carrying this telling (nid 1963) has no firm delivery claim, only the chrome's own hedged circa-1972 guess, so the telling inherits that same weak circa/possible date rather than being stated with any more confidence than the source supports.
