Neville sees Abraham beside the serpent-wound oak

In answer to a question, he retells his vision of the state of Abraham: a tall majestic being leaning against a leafless gnarled oak whose branches resembled the convolutions of the human brain, with a serpent wound round the trunk whose head and face were human and which looked at Neville with an infinitely wise expression while Abraham gazed off into time.
