Neville's dance act in the Daily News, 4 September 1930

Evidence from a newspaper clipping (Daily News, page 162, dated 4 September 1930 -- a Thursday, per the paper's own masthead) related to Neville's dance career. The OCR text is too fragmentary to make out specific performance details; only scattered fragments ('BUSINESS IS HONEST', 'AMERIQUE VARIETIES') are legible.

4 September 1930 estimated · probable · preferred

Source weekday "THURSDAY"

Reasoning OCR reads the masthead year as 1938, but the masthead also reads 'THURSDAY'; 4 Sept 1930 was a Thursday and 4 Sept 1938 was a Sunday, so the true printed year is 1930, misread by OCR.

Why pm-actor-533: pm-actor-533: typed stated with qualifier circa, but OCR's literal masthead digit reads 1938, not 1930; the correct year is worked out by weekday, so this is estimated, not stated

Reasoning The clipping's field_clip_date is 1930-09-04, sourced from the CWB filename. The clipping's own OCR garbles the year as '1938', but the weekday test resolves the apparent conflict decisively: 4 September 1930 was a Thursday, exactly matching the OCR's legible 'THURSDAY' masthead text, while 4 September 1938 was a Sunday. Confidence is kept at probable rather than certain because the OCR text itself is too fragmentary ('BUSINESS IS HONEST', 'AMERIQUE VARIETIES') to confirm the clipping's date is the performance date itself rather than an advertisement or notice published near it.
