From his arrival on 25 September 1922 until the move west in 1957, New York City was Neville's home: lodgings, a basement on West 75th Street, "a dozen hotels", 32 Washington Square West and, from 1943, the penthouse at 145 West 55th Street. He spent seasons away, lecturing in Los Angeles and San Francisco and visiting Barbados.
