Neville recounts an earlier vision in New York City in which he made the sea stand still: by arresting an activity within his own head, he stopped the sea's motion (and, in the same telling, other moving things -- beasts, birds, even dinosaurs), then released it to let everything move on again. He places this vision several years before his well-known 20 July 1959 experience of being 'born from above,' which he also refers to in the same breath.

| 1962 [circa/certain/final] | Unless I Go Away | On the 20th of July, three years ago, in this very city, I had the experience of being born from above, and yet several years prior to that experience, in New York City, I had the experience of having the sea stand still, because I arrested in my head an activity which animated it, and when I released that activity, the things moved on. Whether it’s beast or fowl, when I stopped them — please imagine calling “stop!” and then look up after I release it — the waters, and the dinosaurs — I stopped them, they couldn’t move, and everything was done not “there,” but done in me. | 555888 |
